myBAS Johor Bahru Registers Students from SMK Tun Syed Nasir Ismail for Greater Connectivity Access
Johor Bahru, Malaysia (November 27, 2024) – Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tun Syed Ismail invited Handal Indah Sdn. Bhd. for an informative briefing session on road safety and public transportation for students as part of the Program Pendidikan Khas Integrasi (PPKI) of the school. The session was designed to raise awareness about road safety while also educating students on the benefits of utilizing public transportation services in Johor Bahru.
Dhiaul Badri bin Sapie, the Marketing Coordinator of Handal Indah Sdn Bhd, accompanied by Mr. Anuar Siraj, the Marketing Officer, set up a registration counter for students to sign up for the free myBASKonsesi cards. These cards are part of an initiative aimed at improving public transportation accessibility for Malaysians, particularly students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, and persons with disabilities. With the myBAS Johor Bahru bus services already serving five corridors in Johor, the free myBASKonsesi cards will enable students to travel conveniently across various locations in Johor Bahru.
During the briefing, Badri shared valuable insights on the development of myBAS Johor Bahru’s initiatives to help alleviate traffic congestion along major roads. He also highlighted the myBAS Johor Bahru bus service, a federal initiative managed by the Agensi Pengangkutan Awam Darat (APAD) and monitored by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia. The myBAS Johor Bahru, under the Sustainable Bus Service Transportation (SBST) project, aims to enhance connectivity within Johor Bahru while reducing congestion and promoting more sustainable transport solutions.
A total of 88 students from the PPKI program participated in the session, which not only emphasized the benefits of myBAS Johor Bahru but also introduced students to the free myBASKonsesi cards. Out of the 88 participants, 42 students were successfully registered for the cards, and Handal Indah plans to organize another session later this year to ensure more students can take advantage of this free transportation opportunity.
The myBASKonsesi card is part of the myBAS program launched by the Ministry of Transport in 2023, designed to make public transportation more accessible for marginalized Malaysian groups, including students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, and persons with disabilities. By offering free travel, this initiative helps foster greater mobility and independence, contributing to the development of a more sustainable and inclusive public transport system in Johor Bahru.
“By introducing the myBASKonsesi cards to students, we are not just providing them with a convenient way to travel; we are also supporting the government’s efforts to build a more sustainable, connected, and accessible transportation network for everyone,” said Badri. “We are pleased to be part of this initiative and look forward to expanding its reach to more students across Johor Bahru”.
